And at long last, the last delivery to West Middle Community School!7/20/2021
From my house to the school to the office of the vice principal. Thanks to Jaclyn Visintainer for the shot from her office.
This has been an interesting time of it! We were very glad that we could pitch in with things at West Middle Community School, and by all accounts the students are enjoying it all. But, I have to say, the vendors made this a very strange and occasi
Here we go again: the home stretch!7/14/2021
With the money left over after buying books and school supplies, West Middle Community School requested that we buy playground equipment so the students would have something to use while they were out at recess. Here’s the first load, going in my car from my house to the school.
I’m pretty sure I’ve declared myself very nearly at the end several times already, but
There it goes!4/23/2021
The last of the school supplies left today for West Middle Community School. What a long haul! But we finally made it. Are we done yet, though? No, not quite. We still have some funds left, and we’ll work out what to do with it with the school in the upcoming weeks.
Caravan for boxes12/8/2020
This is actually the second pick-up this week. The first one, only one teacher could make it up, and he couldn’t get all of the boxes into his car. So we arranged a second pick-up, and four teachers were able to make it for this one. We were able to make very quick work of the remaining boxes.
That has been one of the great things about this grant – even dur
More Books for West Middle11/19/2020
I dropped by Key Books on Bartholomew Avenue this evening to pick up the latest arrivals for TeacherDollars. Key Books is a new, locally owned bookstore in Parkville, and they specialize in books that focus on Afrocentricity, spirituality, environmentalism, and entrepreneurship. Their motto is “divine liberation, one page at a t
This is the best way possible to give a sense of the volume of items we’ve been able to purchase for the students at West Middle. The TeacherDollars grant has made a substantial difference for the students at West Middle, as well as for the teachers and staff there.
If it looks a little brighter than usual, that’s because the loading dock door is open.
TeacherDollars at Work!11/13/2020
Boxes are still coming, but we’ve started to bump into holiday shoppers competing with us for items on the teachers’ wish list. Quite understandably, Amazon has limited the amount of certain popular items, but it has slowed orders down to a crawl.
Also, I’ve noticed that the quality of the corrugated cardboard boxes has declined of late. I’m starting t
Filling up the pallets again11/9/2020
We brought the latest shipment up to Veeder Place today. The benches in front of our pallets, and the wood furnishings in the background, are Fresh Start Pallet Products creations. They paint their pieces out on the loading dock in that tent there in the back. And I should add that the unpainted pallets belong to Fresh Start, too – they’ve very graciously let me bo
Boxes of books at home10/20/2020
We’ve gotten through most of the school supplies, so now we’re focused more exclusively on books. It is surprisingly difficult to get things delivered to Veeder Place – we rarely even try anymore – so the books, which will be arriving in multiple small shipments, will be visiting my home before heading up to the Veeder Place loading dock.
Why not have the te
First pick-up from the loading dock10/14/2020
The loading dock seems like a great system for transferring boxes to the teachers from West Middle. Not only is it really simple to hand the boxes over, it keeps us socially distant.
Along with school supplies and books, we also purchased masks for the students, faculty and staff emblazoned with the school logo. The masks were prepared by ARM in Manchester, which handles the

We’ve taken over a spot on the Veeder Place loading dock. These boxes represent two separate deliveries: the brown boxes on top came from UPS today, and the white boxes on the bottom were delivered by a trailer truck right up to the loading dock door. I think we may use this spot more regularly.
