The kitchen cabinets are in, and the kitchen has been taken over as a break room.  The new railing on the second floor is also in, so no more precarious photos from that hallway.

The new stained glass window has been installed – for the moment – to see how it will look.  We went back this evening to have a look, as we had adjusted an interior light to add to its effect when seen from the outside.

The porch has a floor, progress on the kitchen cabinets, getting the baseboard ready, work on the second-floor stair rail, plus a view from the foyer of the two stained glass windows, old and new.

Walls are up:  kitchen, parlor, primary bedroom, and the porch underway.

The insulation work is done, and now walls are going up.  Also, a shower and tub!

And already it looks cozier!

The third floor has been framed to include a door.

The house is beginning to resemble its old self.

Mike Stockman and Bob Rosenberg have been working on framing a new door for the third floor, while Ramon Martinez has been installing more windows.  Ramon gave us our first look at the new stain glass window in place.

The mantle has been removed for restoration.  Work on the front porch continues.

Preparation for the new roof frame is underway, but for now, I was afforded an opportunity to see a view that won’t be seen once the roof is installed.

More framing, more sunshine.

The back section of the roof has been removed.  Most of the work right now is framing the second floor.  At work are Ramon Martinez, Tony Mein, and Amaury Serrano.

Demolition began on the third floor, as we get ready for the new roof to be installed.  This action brought a lot of sunshine into the house, so there are some additional photos of the second floor, too.

It’s spring.  It’s a beautiful day, and I went nuts on photos of the flowering trees in front of 29 Ashley.  Still, it’s an indication of how extraordinary this house will be – and how extraordinary Ashley Street already is.

The future kitchen is starting to take shape.  The view from the third floor is extraordinary on a sunny day like today.  That’s Tony Mein at work on the second floor.  And then there’s a couple of shots of the front of the house, as the flowering trees start to blossom.

More interior framing.

Interior framing has begun inside the house, while work on the siding continues outside.  The back staircase, which had been a separate egress for an upstairs rental unit, has been removed.  The third floor remains daunting.  A very good sign is the arrival of the "ServCorps chairs," which means we are now well underway.

The aluminum siding has started to come down, and now there’s a view of the wood clapboard beneath.  Likely this is from the 1970s renovation of the house – gold was a popular color then, along with avocado, and I think I’m glad they picked gold (okay, mustard) over avocado.

The site is much cleaner now, which means we can now start the restoration work.

There are a few good shots to be had, and they show the potential this house retains.  Also, I’ve included probably my best shots of the stained-glass window.

We took the boards off the windows to let some light in and to get some better photos.

It’s nearly ours.  A crew is in now removing all of the stuff that was damaged by the fire.  Once they are done, we’ll take title.
