This is one way that we find out about distressed properties in the neighborhood, which is why it’s so important that we be out and about as much as possible.

A walk through 279 Farmington

If we walked through 285, we must have walked through 279 as well!  This one is not in as bad shape as 285, but only because it hasn’t been as exposed to the elements as 285 has been.

Its last use was as a legal office.  What we’re calling the “main section,” which is the original historic house, is largely intact, but over in the addition there’s a huge hole in the roof.  I’m not sure, but I think some of the things in there have mutated over time.  They’re likely hungry, too … .

For the record:  the addition was built onto the eastern side of the building by TSKP Group, which had its architectural offices here in the 1980s.  They did a great job, but over time, and because the City didn’t do much to maintain or repair the damage to the roof on the addition, the addition has become a lost cause.

If the City doesn’t shovel its sidewalks, do the rest of us have to?

On the walk home, crossing the Trident at Gallaudet Square.  If this was the sidewalk in front of my house, the City would have cited me.  Who cites the City?  Just asking.

The apartments are officially separate from the homeowner’s unit now, with insulation filling the thresholds that used to let us pass freely from the front of the house to the back of the house.  Insulation is now in all over the place as well, and there’s a new wall in the basement.  Short, but still.

It really is time to do something about signs in the neighborhood

Saw – or really, didn’t see – this sign on my way home tonight (I was walking!).  This sign designates lane restrictions at the Broad Street onramp onto Interstate 84, heading southbound on Broad Street.

And the streetlights are out, too.

Outside my window at Veeder Place today

Saw a vibrant double rainbow today.  First shot looks north, across the train tracks from my office, and the next shot is from the eastern end of the building.  And then, a shot with both ends of the rainbow!

As for all the boxes, the eastern end of the floor serves as a storage area for Express Kitchens.
