Shots fired at Veeder Place

Someone shot up the back windows of Veeder Place, probably over the weekend but maybe yesterday?  I heard this through the grapevine in the building, and it wasn’t entirely clear to me when it happened.  The police were called, and they came out to investigate.  I’ll post updates as I hear them.

The bullets struck the windows on the second floor, where Our Piece of the Pie has its offices and classrooms, as well as on the first floor, where Fresh Start Worx has its offices.

The photos alternate between perspective photos, to show where the bullets struck, and close up photos, to show the damage done by the bullets.  They work their way down from east (closest to Garden Street) to west.

A bad day at Veeder Place

One of the two elevators – three, if you count the cargo elevator, which I don’t – at Veeder Place was out today.  Tenants get used to things going wrong here, whether it’s the elevator (neither have apparently been inspected in years), various leaks around the building, or the bathrooms (don’t get me started).  Still, inured or numb as we may be to all of it, it still counts as a bad day as Veeder Place.

Of course, that was before I heard about the terrifying thing that happened at Veeder Place yesterday or maybe over the weekend ….

Do It Day 2025!

Today was Trinity College’s annual Do It Day, the day on which members of Trinity’s various athletic teams come out into Hartford to do volunteer work.  This was our 15th (maybe?) year participating, and every year we are very grateful for all of the hard work the athletes do at our project sites.

This year, we got the men’s wrestling team, and they worked on pulling up the old, rotten floor boards at 279 Farmington and framing and securing what will be windows and doors at 285 Farmington, once the 1980s addition comes down.  They also did something no previous group from Trinity has ever done before:  they all, each and every one of them, tore the sleeves off of their t-shirts.  The sleeves then became makeshift sweatbands.
