A series of entries designed to capture the ongoing adventures of NINA! See how we came to be where we are today, and follow along as we enter the new century of social media!
Today, NINA was featured on the MetroHartford Alliance's Pulse of the Region podcast. Our executive director, Ken Johnson, appeared on the program along with board chair Lynda Godkin and board president Andrew Daly. Ken, Lynda, and Andrew discussed NINA's past, present, and future in a wide ranging conversation with Kate Ballman, the host of the program. The program remains available to listen to online, and I also tried adding the "iframe path" to this entry. We'll see if that works!
Many thanks to board member Susan Winkler for making this connection for NINA and for all of her efforts to make it happen.
The real reason I was at the house today. It’s getting very close to being done.
Their dumb luck they were standing there as I walked out of the house holding my camera, but they do take a nice photo.

The Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association (AHNA) organized a breakfast for its partners in the neighborhood. The breakfast was held in Drew Chapel at the Asylum Hill Congregational Church (AHCC). It was part “state of the community” presentation and part fundraiser for AHNA, and it was a rather successful event.
Speakers included David MacDonald, executive director, AHNA; Janine McMahon, chair, AHNA; Arunan Arulamapalam, mayor, City of Hartford; and Ted Carroll, who is a member of both AHNA and the AHCC.
Fun fact I learned at this event: Arunan Arulamapalam and his wife Liza, who is a pastor at Center Church downtown, were married by Erica Thompson, the senior pastor at AHCC.
Okay, so it isn’t really 50 Huntington Street. It’s 48 Huntington Street, as it’s part of the property that includes the apartment building to its south. We’ve been ogling the lot for its potential to build another house, like the ones at 52 and 54, and occasionally I go over and take a photo of it. This photo, which is really of The Hartford’s office tower more than it is a photo of the lot, just struck my fancy.
Always nice to have Mike working on site again. He’s in the third-floor apartment, looking west.
Don’t remember these from last year – and even if they were there, it was still a delightful surprise to seem them this year!
Fireplace on the first floor, with me finally not visible in the mirror. Light fixtures delivered and being installed. Floors finished (hence the cardboard walkways everywhere). Fireplace on the second floor has been restored. Palladian-style windows restored on third floor. Rear staircase viewed from third floor, freshly painted.
